NEWS

Kakinada, the Headquarters of East Godavari District lie on the eastern sea board of Bay of Bengal.  It has endowed with twin ports – anchorage and deepwater catering to the needs of two way foreign trade.  It has a population of three and half lakhs as per 2001 census.  During British rule it was called as Cocanada.  This is also called as second Madras and pensioners paradise.

Kakinada Collectorate is a grand institution of 204 years and the Municipal Corporation is morethan 100 years and some other institutions like PRGC, Theosophical Society, Sree Rama Samajam, Bar Association, Saraswathi Gana Sabha, SPCA and few others celebrated hundred years of existence long ago and doing good service as of now.

There are plans to set up an IT and ITES, SEZ and another SEZ is taking shape in 10000 acres on the North Side of City.

A Power Plant with a capacity of 2600 Mega Watts is taking shape as per latest news reports.

Reliance Industries is gearing up to transport the explored gas during the year 2008 second half.  GSPC is on course in its exploration of allotted wells on the east coast of this city.

Basic Amenities for Better Life:  Provision of food, shelter, clothing, education, health, water, sanitation, hygiene, transportation, environment through better administration of time bound policies and schemes with active participation of citizens and voluntary organizations.

Food:  Due to poor administration of Civil Supplies, the prices are sky rocketing and the common man is the worst sufferer leading to poor nutrition and thereby suffering from diseases.

Water:  The water distribution by the Municipal Corporation is inadequate even after hundred years of existence with obsolete pipelines and quality and quantity is very poor, leading the tax payers to go for acqua guards, packaged water, which is a further tax to the consumer.  Those are unable to this inevitable value addition, have to drink the unhygienic water with a constant threat of disease at any time.

Mosquito menace:  In view of the open drainage system coupled with the plastic waste menace, the drains are a breeding ground for the mosquito population.  This is a force to reckon with and people are spending on coils, mats, liquids, lotions, etc., and such amount is modestly calculated at Rs. 360 Lakhs per annum.  In case the authorities are alive to the situation and heed to the suggestion for a small portion of amount out of such annual expenditure, a better service can be provided to the citizens and the people will certainly welcome such measures as they will be free from the menace -  mosquitoes as well as indoor pollution.

Education: The system prevailing in Municipal Schools is highly deplorable – to say the least No benches, shortage of teachers, No toilets, No drinking water, additional duties to the teachers, wrong methods employed for the desired pass percentage for official / World Bank Statistics.  This need to be overhauled with the participation of committees of reputed citizens and N.G.O’s voluntarily without any strings attached.

The Private set up is catering only to a select categories with Corporate culture collecting huge charges, thereby becoming empires and reached a stage to control the system for total encroachment.  This will lead to the total collapse of the public support system and the populist measures of Govt. polices will have a nose dive towards social upheaval.  There is a grave damages on this front and immediate steps are initiated at the right earnest.

Hygiene: There is almost no administrative control from authorities on public eating, hotels, road side makeshift cooking, vegetable vending, meat stalls, etc., complete control must be initiated on this front for better appreciation of law and for better life towards some sort of role model for others to emulate.

Garbage: The collection and transportation of daily waste on overflowing trolleys is also causing concern.  The waste is not segregated, leading to the plastic mixed up with other bio-degradable material, which is coming in the way of top soil management.  There is no Incinerator for this city and the medical waste is getting transported to Rajahmundry for incineration.  Much education is to be imparted to our citizens about the minimal waste, timely waste disposal, etc.

Environment: The natural cycles are not operating in this Coastal city due to pollution from fertilizer plants, oil factories, vehicle exhaust, indiscriminate housing construction, poor avenue plantation, lack of buffer zones, public lung spaces, encroachments, etc.,  A new approach on this front is much awaited for all to participate.

Shelter:  Though there is much hype in the provision of houses for the poor and down trodden, much work needs to be done.

You are all aware that the development of Raja Tank took shape only after the grand installation of Swami Vivekananda Bronze statue by Sri Ramakrishna Seva Samithi in January, 2004 and it is a note worthy and acclaimed as a breath taking spot for all our citizens and visitors.  There are several installations, which are due for completion as Projected two years ago.

Some road widening has taken shape in R.R.R.Road in January, 2006 and still under process and it is not known the due date of full level of desired object.  Likewise the road is widened from Pindala Cheruvu upto Nookalamma Temple, but the piece upto Cosmopolitan Club was not taken up for the reasons best known to the authorities.  Even the black top laid on P.R.G.C. Road on 2.2.2007 for the visit of C.M. has given potholes at some places.  Such is the poor quality of work costing the exchequer huge funds from out of tax payers money.

Following are the subjects for consideration, discussion, preparation of action plan on a continuous basis  towards interaction with several authorities to secure desired results:
